Miniature Horses - Keeping
Miniature Horses prefer to stay outdoors. They should have a small barn and corral in which to relax and graze. Their summer coat is thin, allowing them to be comfortable in humid and hot areas. In the winter a wooly dense coat enables Miniature Horses to withstand sub-zero temperatures. Miniature Horses can be also kept in the house. They are clean and have practically no odor or fleas.
Miniature Horses - Uses
Miniature Horses are excellent guides for blind people. Miniature Horses possess a natural guide instinct, a very wide range of vision, and a phenomenal memory. They are very clean and do not get fleas. Miniature Horses are not addicted to human attention and always remain quiet. Healthy and robust, Miniature Horses can travel long distances. They understand traffic patterns and safety measures.
They are a non-allergenic alternative to traditional guide animals. Because of their docile and calm nature, Miniature Horses are easy to handle for disabled people and can provide support. They are able to help the master to rise. Miniature Horses live longer than do traditional guides. Training a guide horse is not as expensive as training a guide dog. Moreover, they don't need to live in the house. Those Miniature Horses that are not certified physically capable for use as guide animals will make good driving horses, companions or pets.
